SUMMER NEST, Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica

Summer Nights took over the ramp of the Arts Santa Mònica, providing a visual lure to draw people towards this cultural centre. The shelters, designed as places to rest, switch off and read, provided an intriguing sense of privacy away from the hustle and bustle of La Rambla in Barcelona. At the same time, they acted as a relational object, a place for gathering and socialising for those who met inside them. The large structures, open at the top to the sky, were woven from textile ribbons, creating a screen that the breeze could blow through and which offered brief visions of the outside world and gave shade from the bright summer sun.
