TOU, Emili Padrós

Project developed for the Compound Future exhibition (Palau de la Virreina, Barcelona, 1999), which speculated on the objects we are likely to come across in the 21st century.

TOU is an experimental project that reflects on the intangibility and miniaturisation of technology. This laptop takes the form of a translucent and empty sensual bag. The various functions, programs, memories, etc. are added or removed by the user in accordance with their needs (at work, at home, while travelling, etc.). The computer adapts, grows or shrinks and changes in appearance, reflecting its contents. The traditional keyboard and screen have disappeared, becoming part of the object itself: voice, gestures and touch will be the means whereby the user communicates with the computer, which recognises its owner’s particular language.
